Walmart pharmacy hours change a lot depending on the store, so it’s worth checking before you head over.
Some stay open late, some close early on weekends, and the phone number you need can be different from the main store’s number too.
Walmart Pharmacy Hours
Walmart pharmacy hours are shorter than the store’s hours, and that trips people up constantly.
The most common weekday schedule is 9am to 7pm Monday through Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday, with a daily lunch closure around 1:30pm to 2pm.
Though some higher-volume locations open at 8 am or stay open until 8 or 9pm. Saturday usually mirrors the weekday, and Sunday is the shortest window of the week.

★ The key thing to understand is that the pharmacy runs on its own clock. Plenty of Walmart Supercenters are open from 6am to 11pm, and a few run 24 hours, but the pharmacy counter still clocks out around 7pm on a normal weekday.
So, the store being open tells you nothing about either you can pick up a prescription or not. If you show up at 8pm to a store that’s clearly open, the pharmacy gate will already be down. It’s the same idea as the MoneyCenter, which also keeps its own hours separate from the main store.
Format matters too. A Walmart Neighborhood Market pharmacy can run a slightly different schedule than a full Supercenter, and hours shift by state and local regulation.

The Pharmacy Lunch Closure
Most Walmart pharmacies close for lunch, usually around 1:30pm to 2pm, every single day. Some stores run it from 1pm to 2pm instead. During that window, the pharmacy window is shut and the pharmacist is unavailable.
Point to be noted
The catch is that the drive-thru closes right along with it, so you can’t beat the break by staying in your car.
A few very high-volume stores staff two pharmacists and skip the closure entirely, but it’s common enough that I’d assume it exists at your store unless you’ve confirmed otherwise. If you can only go midday, aim for before 1pm or after 2pm to skip the problem.
Weekend and Drive-Thru Hours
Saturday is the easy one. Most pharmacies stick close to weekday hours, roughly 9am to 7pm. Sunday is where people get caught out, since the counter often doesn’t open until 10am and closes by 6pm. An evening Sunday pickup is risky, so grab a Monday refill on Saturday instead.
The drive-thru runs on the same clock as the counter inside, when one’s closed, so is the other.
Not every Walmart has a drive-thru though, so check your store has one before planning around it.
Walmart Pharmacy Holiday Hours
Walmart pharmacies are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, because Walmart’s US stores close entirely on those two days. That’s the whole closure list for the year.
Plan any refill you’ll need around those dates ahead of time, since there’s no counter and no drive-thru either day.
On most other holidays the store stays open, but the pharmacy often runs reduced hours, more like a Sunday than a weekday. New Year’s Day, Easter, and similar days commonly see a later open and an earlier close.

Walmart Pharmacy Phone Number
There isn’t one national Walmart pharmacy phone number. Every store’s pharmacy has its own direct local line. The pharmacy at one Supercenter and the one across town are two separate phone numbers.
If you already have a prescription bottle or a pharmacy receipt from that store, the fastest route is right there on the label. Walmart prints the store’s pharmacy number and store number on both.
Walmart’s Generic Customer Service Line
If you don’t have one handy, the general Walmart customer service line is 1-800-925-6278 (1-800-WALMART), and the automated menu can point you to a store, though it won’t read out hours since those vary by location.

Speaking to a human also helps when something’s off, like an insurance rejection or a delayed order.
That said, a lot of this is faster in the Walmart app now. Routine refills, checking order status, and setting up text alerts don’t need a call at all.

Refilling at Walmart is straightforward.

- You’ll get a notification when it’s ready, and you can choose counter pickup, the drive-thru, or delivery with your groceries at many stores.
Transferring a prescription from another pharmacy is easier than most people expect, because Walmart does the legwork.
- Start the transfer in the app or by calling the store
- Give them the drug name and your current pharmacy’s details, and Walmart contacts the other pharmacy to move it over.
- You don’t have to coordinate the handoff yourself.
- Make sure that your medication qualifies to transfer, since certain controlled substances have restrictions, and your pharmacist can tell you in a sentence if yours is one of them.
