Walmart Price Guide 2026 (Costs You Need to Know)
Walmart prices are the reason most people walk in the door, and the honest answer to what does it cost depends on which part of the store you’re standing in. Groceries move week to week. Auto care, bakery, and propane are priced by location. Walmart+ is one flat number nationwide.
As of July 2026, Walmart+ runs $98 a year. Generic prescriptions on the $4 list start at $4 for a 30-day supply. A gallon of whole milk sits near $2.66. Almost everything else, from tires to a sheet cake, is priced store by store, so the range matters more than a single number.
Prices have moved only a little since last year. Like-for-like inflation at Walmart US ran about 1.3% in the third quarter of fiscal 2026, with food tracking slightly below that.
This page is the map of what things cost. Where the numbers get deep, I’ve sent you to the page that carries the full breakdown.
Walmart Grocery Prices
Groceries are the bulk of what most people spend at Walmart, and they’re the bulk of what Walmart takes in.
Food and beverage made up 59% of Walmart US net sales in fiscal 2026, roughly $285 billion. Here’s a real basket, priced at a Supercenter in February 2026.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Bananas | $0.20 each |
| Lemons (rollback) | $0.58 each |
| Large mangoes | $0.97 each |
| White onions | $1.16/lb |
| Lettuce | $1.88 |
| Mandarins (3 lb bag) | $3.97 |
| Large eggs (dozen) | $1.97 |
| Whole milk (gallon) | $2.66 |
| Shredded cheese (8 oz) | $1.97 |
| Block cheese (1 lb) | $3.98 |
| Great Value canned beans | $0.86 |
| Great Value mac and cheese | $0.58/box |
| Great Value white bread | $1.48 |
| Frozen vegetables (12 oz bag) | ~$0.98 |
| Frozen berries (16 oz blend) | $3.52 |
| Ground beef 85/15, grass-fed organic | $7.47/lb |
| Sirloin steak, grass-fed | $14.93/lb |

Two things moved in opposite directions. Whole milk dropped from $3.68 in 2023 to $2.66, which is real money across a year of shopping. Great Value mac and cheese went the other way, from $0.43 to $0.58 a box.
Treat this basket as a reference point, not a promise. Produce and meat are priced regionally, and the same bag of grapes can swing 40 cents between two stores twenty miles apart. The app shows your store’s price once you set it as your default, and that number is the one that rings up.

The grass-fed cuts above give you a ceiling. Conventional beef and chicken run well under those numbers. The Marketside rotisserie chicken is still the best protein per dollar in the building, and the retail price recently came down by $1.
Great Value vs Name Brands
Great Value is the single fastest way to cut a Walmart bill, usually by 25% to 35% on the items you swap. Canned beans at $0.86 against a national brand at $1.28 is a typical gap, and it repeats across most of the pantry.
The Actual Reason
The reason is straightforward. Great Value products skip the heavy marketing budgets that national brands carry. Many are manufactured in the same facilities, with nearly identical ingredients. Walmart’s supply chain scale drives down production and distribution costs further.
Where it works best:
- Canned goods, beans, tomatoes, and soups
- Baking supplies and spices
- Frozen vegetables and fruit
- Bottled water
- Shredded cheese and butter
- Bread and buns

I won’t pretend it’s universal. Soda and a few snack flavors are worth the name brand, and I’ve never liked the Great Value coffee. But on staples, the quality gap is small enough that paying double is a habit, not a decision.
Walmart+ Membership Cost
Walmart+ costs $98 a year or $12.95 a month as of July 2026, and the Walmart+ signup page is where the current trial offers show up. If you’re on government assistance or you’re a college student, Walmart+ Assist cuts that to $49 a year or $6.47 a month.
The membership covers free delivery on $35+ store orders, free shipping with no minimum, fuel savings up to 10 cents a gallon, Scan & Go, a Paramount+ or Peacock subscription, and free pharmacy delivery.
My rule is simple. Under two delivery orders a month, pay the fees instead. Whether the rest of the perks close that gap is the whole question, and the honest Walmart+ math runs the numbers benefit by benefit.
Walmart Price Match Rules
Walmart matches one thing and one thing only. If you’re buying in a US store and the identical item is cheaper on Walmart.com, the store will match it, with the manager on duty holding the final call.
That’s the entire policy, per Walmart’s own corporate answer.
No Amazon, no Target, no Costco, no other Walmart store, no Marketplace sellers, and nothing on Walmart itself. Rollback and Black Friday pricing is excluded too, which catches people out constantly.
The exclusions, the one-per-day quantity cap, and the Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico carve-out are all laid out in what Walmart will and won’t match.
Walmart Pharmacy Prices
Walmart Pharmacy’s headline is the $4 Prescriptions Program, better known as the $4 list. Select generics start at $4 for a 30-day supply and $10 for 90 days, with no insurance, membership, or coupon needed.
Here’s the part most guides get wrong. Antibiotics, antihistamines, and steroids are not on the list, and Walmart says so on its own $4 Prescriptions page. It covers common maintenance generics for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid, and mental health.
Higher doses cost more, prices run higher in some states including California and Minnesota, and the program isn’t offered in North Dakota at all.
Walmart+ members get free pharmacy delivery with no order minimum, which eliminates the need to visit the store for routine refills. You can also check estimated prescription prices through the Walmart app if your account is verified.
Walmart Vision Center Prices
A basic eye exam at a Walmart Vision Center starts around $65 and climbs if you need a contact lens fitting on top.
Frames start in the $20s, and the price you actually pay depends on the lens package far more than the frame.
Exam pricing is set by the independent optometrist at each location, not by Walmart, which is why the number moves store to store.
The exam tiers, frame and lens costs, and contact pricing are all broken out in Walmart Vision Center pricing.
Walmart Auto Care Prices
Walmart Auto Care Centers undercut dedicated shops on almost everything they’ll touch, and everything they do is priced by store. Nothing here is a flat national rate.

Passenger tires run roughly $66 to $160 depending on size and brand, with basic installation around $18 per tire and free rotation included when you buy and mount there. Sizing is what drives the number, so the ranges and the per-brand pricing live in Walmart tire and installation costs.
Oil changes start near $20 for conventional and roughly triple that for full synthetic, and the packages differ enough that the cheapest one isn’t always the right one. Every tier is priced out in Walmart oil change packages.
Car batteries are the sleeper deal, especially with same-day install. Brand options, group sizes, and what installation actually costs are covered in Walmart car battery pricing. For wait times and the full service menu, including what they flatly refuse to do, there’s the Walmart Auto Care Center guide.
One perk worth knowing. Walmart+ members get free flat tire repair and a free road hazard warranty at Auto Care Centers, which quietly makes the membership cheaper if you’re buying tires anyway.
Walmart Bakery and Flower Prices
Bakery is where Walmart’s price gap over grocery-store bakeries is widest. Sheet cakes, cupcake trays, and party platters are priced per store and per size, and the custom decorating charge is the line item people forget.
The full menu with sizes and lead times is in Walmart bakery pricing.
Flowers follow the same pattern. Grab-and-go bouquets sit at the front of most Supercenters, and the arranged options cost more than the sticker suggests once you add a vase. Budget-by-budget breakdowns are in Walmart flower pricing.
Walmart MoneyCenter Fees
The Walmart MoneyCenter handles a surprising amount for very little. Money orders start around $0.70 per transaction, which is among the cheapest in the country, though the cap per order and the accepted payment types trip people up.
Those details are in Walmart money order fees.
Passport photos run about $7 to $10, comfortably under CVS and Walgreens. Not every store has a photo center that does them anymore, so calling ahead saves a wasted trip.
- See the current pricing and the CVS comparison for Walmart passport photo costs.
Walmart Propane Tank Prices
A standard 20 lb propane tank exchange runs roughly $20 to $25, and buying your first tank outright costs more because you’re paying for the cylinder as well as the gas. Walmart exchanges tanks. It does not refill them.
That distinction matters, because a refill is usually cheaper per gallon if you can find a place that does it. The exchange-versus-refill math and where each one wins are covered in Walmart propane tank costs.
Walmart Electronics Prices
Electronics follow the same everyday low price approach as the rest of the store, but two things are pushing on the numbers in 2026.
- Tariffs. General merchandise inflation, electronics and appliances included, has run above 3%, partly on tariff costs.
- Digital shelf labels. Walmart is putting electronic price tags in every US store by the end of 2026, which lets shelf prices sync with the website far faster than a person with a label gun ever could.
Practically, that second one shrinks the gap the price match relies on. If the shelf and the site always agree, there’s nothing left to match. Scan the barcode in the app before you commit to a TV or a tablet. Rollbacks in this department move fast.
Rollback Prices at Walmart
A Rollback is a temporary price cut with no coupon attached. It can last days or months, and the deepest ones hit 60% off. Walmart US ran about 6,200 Rollbacks in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, up 23% year over year, and opened fiscal 2027 with roughly 7,200 active, more than half of them on groceries.
Look for the yellow tag in store, or filter by Rollback in any category on the app. The catch is that a Rollback tag compares against Walmart’s own previous price, not the market, so it isn’t automatically the cheapest option on the shelf.
What Rollback actually means at Walmart gets into how to tell a real markdown from a reset price.
How to Spend Less at Walmart
Shrinkflation is real, and the sticker price hides it. Read the price per ounce or per pound on the shelf tag. Walmart prints it clearly, and it’s the only number that survives a package size change.
Check the App Before Checkout
The app shows the Walmart.com price, which is sometimes lower than the shelf. Since the store will match its own website, that’s free money at the service desk. Do it before you get in line, not at the register.
Stock Up on Non-Perishable Rollbacks
Canned goods, rice, pasta, and frozen vegetables are worth buying deep when the yellow tag shows up. Grocery prices look like they’re stabilizing, but nobody sensible expects them to fall back to 2019 levels.
Switch Store Brands Selectively
Don’t convert your whole cart at once. Swap the pantry, frozen, and dairy staples first, live with it for a month, and keep the name brand on the two or three things you actually notice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Do Walmart Prices Differ Between Stores
Walmart prices regionally on groceries and prices services at the store level. Local labor costs, supplier contracts, and competition all feed into it. Two Supercenters in the same metro can differ, which is why every service range on this page is a range and not one number.
Does Walmart Price Match Amazon or Target
No. Walmart stores match Walmart.com and nothing else. Competitor matching ended years ago and hasn’t come back.
Can I Check Walmart Prices Online Before Visiting
Yes. Set your local store as the default in the Walmart app and the prices you see are that store’s. You can also scan any barcode in the aisle to confirm what will ring up.
